What we've done this week....

This week we have been reading the decodable book, "Sam Sat". This week's book is no longer a pre-decodable book, meaning it does not have the picture boxes for students to decipher what the word is. They now have to either know the sight words or they have to sound out the words. Many students have done very well with this new book, ask them to read it to you, it came home today!
Needed:
1/2 gallon milk or juice cartons for cube game
Clorox Wipes

What a great surprise!

So Tuesday afternoon while we were busy making a chart about what part of the gingerbread cookie we would eat first, we got a very special visitor. Colin's dad came in to pick him up and Colin hadn't seen him in person for a year as he has been in Afghanistan! Welcome home Nate, we are all so glad you are reunited with your family!

Ohhh, I'm soooo sick!!

Our Kindergarten "sick day" was so much fun! We wore our pajamas, had our favorite blanket and pillow, watched a movie, and had "sick day" snacks. We even took our temperature to check if we were reaaaaaaalllllly sick! Now we know how to keep ourselves healthy so we don't have to have a real sick day, we don't want to miss any school!

Clorox Wipes Wanted

As we are now halfway through our school year we have used all of our wipes. If you have an extra container you could do without we'd love to have it in class to help stay disinfected! Thanks!!

That was our last pre-decodable book! Next week we start on to decodable books, without the picture words for help! We also had Dibel tests this week to see how your child is doing, which you will see on their report cards in 2 weeks!

Next week we will study being healthy, how to stay healthy, and what to do if you are sick. On Thursday, January 24th we will have a "sick day" while we are at school. AFTER LUNCH students will be able to change into their pajamas that they bring to school in their backpacks. We will stay in the classroom in our pajamas, have comfort items that one might have if they are sick, and watch a movie. Please do not send your child to school in their pajamas, we will change after lunch.

Remember! No school Monday as it is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and no school next Friday because the teachers will be working to get report cards done!

Picking up students

I hope you will all agree that picking up your child in the classroom (if they don't ride the bus) after school has been much nicer this week. Your child is staying warm and dry, it avoids the chaos and confusion of the back parking lot, and it is more enjoyable for them to wait where they are familiar. I hope this hasn't caused too much craziness with parking for you. If you haven't tried parking on the backside behind our classroom and coming in that door, that could be an option for you too. If you have tried this, you have probably noticed that the exterior door is locked, this is a safety precaution to ensure all visitors check in at the office through the school day. You may enter at the opposite end of the hall.

PBiS Super Hero!

CONGRATULATIONS ARABELLA
for being out PBiS Super Hero! You are doing a great job being safe, responsible, and respectful! Awesome!
