Picture
This week we have been studying pumpkins, practicing our sight words, playing great math games, making beautiful pumpkin crafts, and, we got to pick a pumpkin from Mrs. Kerr's pumpkin patch (check picture page for more of our adventure!!)! Our story of the week that came home today is "A FARM", with new sight words, HAVE, BIG, and SMALL. This is a great story for your child to read to you, and the more they read, the better they get! Thank you Mrs. Kerr for a great time at your pumpkin patch created just for us! It was so much fun!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Well, we have almost completed one quarter, which means your child will soon be getting their first report card! It also means it is time for parent/teacher conferences. I can't wait to talk with you about the progress your child has made! I will be sending home conference appointments on Monday, October 29 for the week of November 5-8th. Please check the time, if it works sign it and send it back. If it does not work, please leave the best phone number you can be reached at, and I will call you to set a new time.

Halloween Party

Our class Halloween Party will be after lunch, Wednesday, October 31, 2012 @ 11:20!!
Students may bring their costumes to school to change into after lunch at 11:20. Please DO NOT send your child to school in their costume! We will have a parade, snacks, and activities. The party will last about an hour, you are welcome to join!

It's been a great week in the owl class with lots of learning! We have been studying spiders, counting spiders, reading about spiders, and making spiders! Our story of the week that came home today is "The Trunk", with new sight words, HE and SHE, Please read this story with your child, it just takes a few minutes and it helps them a great deal! At this stage, your child is excited about learning. Help them by having them practice their letters and numbers, get on IXL to practice their math, or best o fall, read a story with them!

End of the Day Reminder

Please Remember:
If you have someone else picking up your child they must be on your emergency list, or you must call in to school or send a note in your child's red homework folder. If calling in, try not to do it at the beginning or end of the school day as these are very busy times for the ladies in the office.
If you are picking up your child, we will dismiss students at the bottom of the Kindergarten stairs at 2:00, or you can pick your child up at the door before 1:50.

Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
October 26th

Yes, our field trip is next Friday! If you are planning on attending, please let us know on the permission slip. We will leave the school at 10:00am, and return at 10:30 to be back in time for lunch. Please send a pillow case to school with your child to carry their pumpkin in!

Parent/Teacher Conferences

Watch for a letter next week with an appointment for your child's conference time. Conferences will be held the week of November 5th-8th after school each day. I look forward to meeting with you and discussing your child's progress thus far.

This week has been all about fire safety! We studies it in class, had visits from the fire department and even got our own fire hats! We read the pre-decodable book, "We See", and learned new sight words "and" and "we" to add to our growing list. So far we have made it through letters A-O, learning the uppercase, lowercase, as well as their sounds, and motions. We are learning so many new things each day, and reinforcing all we have learned so far.

Education at home

Pre-decodable books have been coming home every Friday. Please take time to read these with your child everyday, nothing works better than practice! They all should have dour books they have brought home.
Also, a list of sight words was sent home on Thursday. We sent this list home a few weeks ago as well. It is really beneficial for your child to go over this list with them regularly. The more they practice, the faster they learn these words, and the sooner they are reading!
Remember, your child can also get on IXL from home. Each child has their own account, and this is a great way for them to practice their letters and numbers by logging in and practicing. They can do it! They do it twice a week at school.

No school Monday, October 8th!
Columbus Day & Teacher In-Service Day!

It's been a great week working on our fall theme, reading our pre-decodable book, "School", and practicing our sight words, "the", "is", "an, "a", "here", "see", and "I". So far we have made it through letters A-K, learning the uppercase, lowercase, as well as their sounds and motions. The wise little owls are soaking up knowledge like sponges!
Next week we will be studying fire safety, and even meeting some real fire fighters! The fire department will be bringing gear and fire trucks in which we will get to try on the gear, and even handle the hoses! We will have lots of fun pictures to show for this!

Show & Share

We will start having show and share in our classroom! Starting next week we will do Show & Share for Girls on Thursdays at 15:50, and Show and Share for Boys on Fridays at 12:50. We ask that they do not bring any toys or electronics, as these can disappear, and are too valuable. We ask students to share a story, an item from nature, or something they have made. They also may bring in a pet as long as a parent can bring in the pet at our show and share time. Please do not send any pets to school with them, as they cannot be here unassisted. I ask that you let us know ahead if you are planning to bring a pet in. Thanks so much!

Pumpkin Patch!

We have a field trip coming up! I will send home permission slips for our pumpkin patch field trip on Monday, October 22. These will need to be returned on Tuesday, October 23. We will be going to our own, private, pumpkin patch at Mrs. Kerr's house! She lives close by so we will be walking that day! Mrs. Kerr has grown enough punkins for each students to take one home! We will enjoy apple cider, pumpkin treats and a story to go along with it! We'd love to have volunteers that day, but no siblings on this trip please.

Halloween

We will be celebrating Halloween after lunch on October 31st. Students may bring their costumes to school and change into them AFTER lunch. There will be a parent sign up for refreshments in class starting October 22nd. If you don't get to sign up we will get you next time. We will need some parent help too!
Fun, fun, fun!

Education at home

Watch for name practice sheets to come home soon....please work with your child to write their names beautifully!
Also, please help your child to learn their lunch numbers, which are also used for the library and their computer login.
Students can practice their IXL at home: www.ixl.com/signin/kal. Their log in is the first letter of their first name, and the first four letters of their last name, for example: mkime is mine. Their passwords are their lunch numbers.
Reading to your child is the best thing you can do to help them realize the importance of reading. Ask them to point out parts of the book, ask them to show you different letter and numbers on each page , and just have fun with it, spending time with your child.
