We are now done with our second take-home book called "Lunch" and it is coming home with your child today! Please read the books with your child when they come home, as the more practice they have, the more they will start recognizing words we have worked on, and as they start recognizing words more they start putting them together to make sentences.
We have also been working on mini books with a few words to also help them with beginning sight words. These books are often repetitive to help them learn these new words. They are doing great, and are soaking up this new knowledge!

Volunteers

Thank you so much to all our volunteers who come in to help a day a week, it makes our rotations so much smoother, which helps students get more out of their education! They are having a great time creating all sorts of art projects! Thanks also for parents doing behind the scene projects for us, it all helps!
If you cannot make it on a day please give us a call so we can change our lessons plans as some things cannot be done without a helper!

IXL Math Program

Your child has an account on IXL, which is an internet Math program. Their login is the first initial of their first name, and the first four of their last name, such as jblac for Jim Black. Their password is their lunch/library number. They can practice at home anytime!

Folders

Please take everything out of your child's folder each night, keeping all at home unless it is something needing to be signed and returned. Kids have a hard time putting items in their folders to bring home if it has too much in it! Students should bring these folders to school every day.

Fall Picture Day
No School: Columbus Day & Teacher In-service day
PTO Meeting, 5:30 Library

Hello families!
We have started our reading rotations this week, as well as our daily math lessons! Kids have started reading their first book, "The Park"! They are doing a great job! We have been learning our letter sounds, studying things that are at school, and we had a great "Wheels on the Bus" snack too (thanks to all of you who donated items from our giving tree)! We can't wait to start on all the fun we have in store for next week!

END OF THE DAY REMINDER:
Please remember: If you have someone else picking up your child they must be on your emergency list, or you must call in to school or send a note in your child's red homework folder. If calling in, try not to do it at the beginning or end of the school day as these are very busy times for the ladies in the office.
If you are picking up your child, we will dismiss students at the bottom of the kindergarten stairs at 2:00, or you can pick your child up at the door, though we leave the classroom around 1:50

School Lunch
If you ever need to pay for your child's lunch you can send a check in their folder and we will send home a receipt with your child. You can also request a free/reduced lunch form and your children may qualify for free lunch. Just let us know!

Parents, it has been a great first week with your children, they are learning lots already, with great improvement in writing their names with upper and lowercase letters, cutting and pasting, and sitting quietly listening to stories.
Students are earning PBiS tickets as they sit quietly, line up, and are extra helpful!
We have done owl projects everyday, and even had a change to play some "Duck, duck, goose" this week!
I hope your children are having lots of fun as they learn more each day. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns.

Volunteers wanted!

Thank you to those parents who have inquired about volunteering in the Owl Class, I will be contacting you within the week. Our schedule needs volunteers in the afternoon to work with a group of students, usually for an art project, sometimes to play and educational game, and sometimes to do anther skill building activity.
Sometimes, parents are nervous about working with kids, but don't worry! It's lots of fun, and i promise not to give you anything too difficult or stressful! And, it's so fun working with the Wise Little Owls, they are all so enjoyable!

The Giving Tree

Thank you, thank you, thank you to all the families who have picked items from our Giving Tree, and brought in so many needed items!
This will make your child's learning even more fun as it allows us to do extra fun projects.

Dear Kindergarten Parents,
Welcome to the wonderful world of Kindergarten! I hope your and your child find this year to be an educational, social and enjoyable experience.
Kindergarten hours are 8:00-1:50. Children who ride the bus to school will be dropped off in the back parking lot of Kalmiopsis School. If you bring your child to school, he/she should not arrive before 8:00. When bringing your child to school, please be aware of the traffic in the parking lot, it can get very busy. When picking your child up in the afternoon, please come to the bottom of the steps as we don't want to send children through the busy parking lot to your car. To avoid confusion please do not come in the breezeway or to the classroom door, all kindergarten teachers bring students being picked up to the back steps.
If your child rides the bus home, please be sure to meet your child at the bus stop as the bus driver will not let your kindergartener off the  bus unless there is a parents or other responsible adult there to meet them. The bus runs may take a week or so to get the kinks worked out, please be patient.
Lunch information was included in your child's registration packet. Students are given hot lunch menus monthly. It will be helpful if you can review the menu with your child to help them decide their lunch choice if they are having hot lunch. If your child brings a lunch from home please be sure to include nutritious items that do not require a lot of fuss as they only have 20 minutes to eat their lunch.
For snack, we ask every parent to send three boxes of crackers of your choice. Each child will be given crackers at snack time from this collection. If your child has allergies, please let us know so we can work with you to provide snacks, as well as plan cooking projects.
Parent volunteers have always been important to our kindergarten program. We ask parents to help with small groups, prepare classroom items, and do some clerical work. Occasionally we will also be preparing things that a parent may do at home and send back to school. If you would like to volunteer in any capacity, be sure to indicate this on the volunteer form.
Communication is very important. Please watch for and read our classroom newsletter each Friday. Also, post the monthly calendar which will have an art project on it and will list special days each month.
I am available for conferences, in person, or by phone, any time of the year if you have a concern, or just want to talk about your child. You may reach me by calling the school at 541-469-7417, ext. 209. They will either connect you to the classroom, or put you through to our voicemail where you can leave a message. I will check my messages throughout the day. You may also email me at [email protected]
To help your child do his/her best at school we ask you to:
1.    Please get your child to school on time.
2.    Be sure your child gets plenty of rest, is fed, and dressed appropriately for school and the weather.
3.    SEND NOTES FOR CHANGES IN TRANSPORTATION ARRANGEMENTS. Please do not ask your child to             tell us about transportation changes, as sometimes the message is not correct.
4.    If your child is absent please call and let the office know.
5.    Check your child's backpack each day for notes, and go over any work brought home.
6.    Please communicate with me as any concerns arise.

Class rules are base on good manners, and following our three main school rules:

Be Safe, Be Respectful, Be Responsible

1.    Be a good listener.
2.    Share, and help others.
3.    Keep your hands and feet to yourself.
4.    Put things away.

We will spend a lot of time at the beginning of the year going over these rules and procedures. Students who follow these rules will enjoy their school experience more.
We look forward to working with you to help your child have an incredible first year in school. We look forward to an exciting year!
Mrs. Kime & Mrs. Kerr
