What we've learned this week......

This week we have been reading the re-decodable book, "The Pot" In this new book it includes the sight words are and in. The sight words we have learned this far are: the, is, an, a, here, see, I, and, we, he, she, have, big, small, this, it, no, go, up, down, who, had, do, are and in. Any practice you can do at home with your child helps them out as well. At this stage they are really liking to write words, encourage it! Any and all they want to practice are terrific! Most of our students now recognize all the letter of the alphabet, and the sounds they make. Ask them about the motions the letters make! They know all of these!

Many of our owl students are also writing to 100 already! Great job little owls! You are off to a great start!

Work in folders

Sometimes your child will come home with will come home with work in their folder that is not completed. This is merely a time issue. We do one of these in the morning before the tardy bell rings so students' time varies depending on when they arrive at school or from breakfast. At other times you will find incomplete items because in rotations each child works at different pace. It is ok these are not finished. If I feel a students was wasting time I will write you a note to have them finish it, or keep them in at recess to complete.

Thanksgiving is coming soon!

We have been studying turkeys this week, and next week, we will be study being Thankful. I hope that you all get to spend this valuable time with your friends and family, enjoying all the YOU have to be thankful for, I know I will!

Please remember to let the office know, or send a note anytime there is a change in your child's transportation home. If someone else will pick them up, make sure they are on their emergency sheet, or you have told us, as we will not let them go without this.

Thank you parents, families and students for all coming to our parent/teacher conferences, they were a wonderful success! I think it is crucial for us to work together to work towards the success of your child's education. I am so happy with the progress of my students, they are working hard, and it shows in their success in the first quarter. Please remember, I have an open door policy, which means I welcome you to come anytime to observe your chil in class, help in class, or to talk with me about their education. You can come by, email, or call. Thanks again for a great couple of weeks of conferences!

Oh what a great week we have had, reading our new pre-decodable books, "This Is", learning the new sight words this, it, and no, and practicing letter formation, sounds, and recognition. In math we have been working on patterns, story problems, and writing beautiful numbers. Of course we can't forget how much fun we had with our Halloween parade and party, with so many tasty treats, fun games, stories, and even Sadie's dog Lucy came in to visit! It's been another great week, full of fun, learning and happy, smiling faces! Remember there is no school tomorrow, Friday November 2nd, as it is a teacher work day so we can do report cards!

Helpful Websites

A great site is IXL, it is a math program which lets students practice all level so f mth, and our school has purchased a license for every student. This allows students to practice when we go to the lab each week, and it also allows students to practice from home anytime they like. The link is: https://www.ixl.com/signin/kal
Your child's login is the first letter of their first name and the first four of their last name. Their password is their lunch n umber, which most of them know by now.

Parent/Teacher Conferences

On Monday students brought home a parent/teacher conference letter, scheduling you for a time. I have received these back from most students, but a few I still have not. Please return these as soon as possible so I can schedule a time for you. I look forward to talking with you soon!

Successful Party!!

Thank you to all of you who donated items, and/or came and helped with the Halloween Party, it was lots of fun, and we had a TON of goodies! One of the kids said, "This is the best Halloween ever!" Thanks so much for helping to make these special times great for all of our students!
