What we've done this week........

This week we have been reading the pre-decodable book, "What Do We See?" This new book includes the sight word this, and at. The sight words we have learned this far are: the, is, an, a, here, see, I, and, we, he, she, have, big, small, this, it, no, go, up, down, who, has, do, are, in, on, what, can, you, this, and at.
Over winter break your child would benefit greatly by reading these pre0deccodable books we have been sending home each week. We also sent home baggie with sight word flashcards in them. These are invaluable in your child's learning, and take very little time to practice each day! They can use them to practice writing them, put them in abc order, say them to their siblings, whatever it takes just to practice!

Crazy rainy pick ups

It has been some crazy weather this week, and as I am sure you have noticed, it has been crazy at the kindergarten pickup area. Because of this craziness, and trying to keep your children from being drenched, I am thinking it might be safer, calmer, and much dryer for students who are being picked up to wait in the classroom. I would like to start doing this after out Winter Break. Please contact me if you find this to be a problem, and we will discuss possible options.

Unfinished work in folders

If your child comes home with items unfinished in their folders it means for whatever reason they ran out of time to finish it. These do not need to be brought back to school, but it is a good idea to finish them up at home for practice.

Gingerbread Person

The gingerbread person came home 2 weeks ago with your child. It  has directions, and is all reaqdy to send to a friend or family member. If you  haven't already sent these out, please do so as soon as possible as we will be using them after Christmas in our classroom.

They love to shows you what they have learned, and what they know. We are practicing our sight words every day, and a way to do this is at home is to make flashcards with your child...they would love to write them out on paper, and then cut them out....a great way to practice!

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
Our school is participating in an annual food drive which is put on by the Brookings-Harbor High School. We have discussed this in the classroom, and explained that if students had non-perishable items at home that mom or dad would let them donate, that would be great. Thanks for your help! Today, Friday, December 14th was the last day to participate!

This week we have been reading the pre-decodable book, "The Bug, the Duck, and the Frog". This new book includes the sight word on. The sight words we have learned this far are: the, is, an, a, here, see, I and, we, he, she, have, big, small, this, it, no, go, up, down, who, has, do are, in and on. As with anything, practice makes perfect, so if you can read this book with your child it helps! They love to show you what they have learned, and what they know. Also, any writing practice they want to do should be encouraged, even if it doesn't seem relevant, it is all helpful! We are also starting to segment, or put our words in parts, such as "Fri" and "day" to make Friday.
